Four festivals in Asia that should be on your radar!
Dear friends, we know you all like to visit music events. In this article we want you to find out about 4 great festivlas in Asia you can't miss!
Asia’s burgeoning festival scene is a force to be reckoned with. Over the years, we’ve witnessed a string of fresh concepts and existing international brands introduced to a festival market which is growing faster than any other in the world. And they not only attract the local fans - foreigners from near and far also make up a large percentage of festival goers in the region.
It isn’t hard to understand how Asia has been widely recognised as an ideal location for music festivals. The region’s diverse landscapes of mountainous foothills, sandy beaches, lush forests and wide open spaces are idyllic locations for large outdoor soirees as we’ve pointed out in this article. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg; city centres and their outskirts are also favoured playgrounds for these massive events.
While festivals in Europe, the US and the UK predominantly take place during summer, Asia kicks off its season in January and keeps the events coming until the year ends. To help you choose your rave battlegrounds wisely in the first half of 2017, we’ve selected three festivals making their epic debuts and one irresistible island affair. Check them out below.
Don’t Let Daddy Know, Bangkok
Don’t Let Daddy Know (DLDK) will be making its Southeast Asian debut on February 12th 2017. The concept was originally coined by Dutch-based events organisation, E&A Events, however the Bangkok edition is brought to you by Hexx Events - a newly formed event agency which combines the expertise of Thailand’s Zaap Enterprise and Event Pop Co., and Malaysia’s Future Sound Asia and Deck Time Stories.
Going against the festival’s norm, Asiatique The Riverfront in Bangkok is set to host DLDK’s first ever outdoor event. In true EDM fashion, the festival will come complete with mind-blowing visuals and innovative special effects, with the list of headliners exactly what you would expect from such a concept. DLDK have the likes of Steve Angello, Nervo, Nicky Romero, Quintino, R3HAB and Semvok as their international acts, plus regional talents like Faahsai, Nasty Guru and Roxy June.
Anotherworld, Bangkok
“Unleash the riot of the unknown world. Welcome to the music reverence of darkness,” reads the tagline for hardstyle festival, Anotherworld. The region’s first dedicated hardstyle festival is set to make its debut on March 4th at Motorsports Land in Bangkok. The organisers have recently finalised its impressive line-up featuring the best the genre has to offer.
The epic roster features the likes of Belgian jumpstyle maestro Coone, Dutch acts Noisecontrollers and Mightyfools along with special guest, MC DL, Italian crowd favourite Zatox and Aussie sensation Code Black. Anotherworld’s debut was respectfully rescheduled from its original date in November following the death of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej in October. As the saying goes, “it’s better late than never” and this cannot be more apt for Anotherworld. A proper hardstyle festival is long overdue for a region that has an abundance of fans for the genre and, based on the video teaser, it looks like it is going to be absolutely mental.
Air Festival, Gili Island
Only a short ride from Bali, Gili Island will be playing host to Air Festival from March 31st to April 2nd. The festival will feature a plethora of electronic music genres for three days and three nights, ranging from the techno underground to house music galore. Party punters will enjoy dancing on the white sandy beach surrounded by lush jungles, deserted islands and open sea.
The festival’s full lineup has been confirmed and it features a healthy mix of international and regional acts including German techno lass Dana Ruh, Keinemusik’s Rampa, Amsterdam based Shinedoe and Singapore sensation Zig Zach. The festival will feature three stages for revellers to choose from and sunset cruises.
Committed to preserving the environment, the organisers aim is to go completely plastic free this year. “We are committed to leaving the beautiful island of Gili Air better than we found it,” Air Festival have announced, “offering support to the local community in the way of waste removal and reduction and renovations at the local school.”
Looptopia, Taiwan
LOOPTOPIA - a homegrown electronic music festival organised by leading entertainment and hospitality group theLOOP - will be making its debut on April 8th and 9th in the lush grasslands of the Taoyuan Pushin Ranch. TheLOOP has been at the forefront of Taiwan’s electronic music scene for over 15 years; its production team has executed over 40 large-scale music events all over the island, collaborating in the past with international brands like Godskitchen, Sensation and Armin Only.
They’ve announced their first phase line-up, locking in some of the biggest names in the scene including Dutch wonderboy Martin Garrix, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike and their latest prodigy Mattn, trance legend Markus Schulz and Egyptian trance duo Aly & Fila. The list continues with the inclusion of heavy-hitting hardstyle DJs like Brennan Heart and Coone, trap honchos Yellow Claw, Hardwell’s protégé Dyro and KSHMR among others.
